A few months ago I was looking into Dispo. Dispo is a photography app that mimics disposable cameras. One of the key features that I really found interesting and I believe to be a big reason for its popularity is that it hides your photos for 24 hours. That is a key element to shooting… Read more
I always have some kind of creative project going that I’m excited about. If not I can get bored and depressed. I’ve found that these projects fall into one of two categories, web/computer-based or home remodeling. This Kitchen UI kit I built feels like that perfect intersection between those categories. This started when I was… Read more
I’m lucky enough to have this park just outside my neighborhood that few people go to. Twin Lakes starts as a creek, then turns into a winding marshy area, that turns into a pond. Next to that is a man-made lake. Neither the marshy area nor the pond would be there if it wasn’t for beavers.
When COVID hit I wasn’t about to sit around and wait it out. No sports for the kids or commuting to work opened up a lot of time! Flip the wall! The structure of the shop is made of these huge timbers that really give it a log cabin feel. I wanted more of that.… Read more
The smartphone changed the world. Instead of just basking in the glory of our 512GB Pacific Blue iPhone 12 with Super Retina XDR display we should also be aware of the changes in our lifestyle that such a powerful devise brings. With something that gives so much, you have to ask, what does it take… Read more

The following photos were taken by N. Guy Ferrell. Most have never been seen. Many of them were taken in Tampa and Palm Beach Florida between 1966 and 1974 when Guy was working for the Palm Beach Post.
One of the challenges this app has is that it has basically two primary functions. Both are totally unrelated. I think this distinction is important for the user to understand quickly. For one thing, these two separate parts both require scanning of some type. So, not creating a distinction between these parts can create a… Read more
I have a 91-year-old grandmother. She lives in Nashville, so I don’t get to see her much. But it is nice to talk to her on the phone. But even that is difficult to do. Smartphones are a little too complex and feature-rich for her. And I wouldn’t expect her to remember my phone number… Read more
Inspired by true events. Elaborated on through a collection of stock photography.
The above photo is Guy at a Tampa Florida music festival in 1963. The band name was “The Savages.” I met Guy when I was working in Demopolis. He sold ads for the local newspaper and I designed them. He is an incredible photographer, guitar player, songwriter, and friend. I think his songs are incredible.… Read more

I’ve said before, I’m a big fan of album art. It’s like putting a face to a name. I like having that visual association with audio.
You’ve probably heard that phrase that goes something like, “do one thing and do it well.” I know Elon Musk and Steve Jobs have said it. After Googling just now, it looks like Ken Thompson first declared it as the Unix Philosophy. It is a “set of cultural norms and philosophical approaches to minimalist, modular… Read more
I’ve always loved streams and small sources of freshwater. I think part of that is because my dad used to take me and my brothers to local streams and we would go creek walking for miles. You never knew what you would find creatures you would find and stretch was unique.
The kids and I did some off-trail hiking up Stone Mountain just East of Atlanta. I was thinking the unusual surface of the mountain felt kind of out-of-this-world. And their jackets looked like spacesuits. So I decided to do a mash-up with a SpaceX promo video. Kinda like the kids blast off – travel through… Read more
When using a boat for hunting, your needs vary greatly. The type of game you’re after, your personal hunting style, and the terrane you’re in all need to fit the objective.
My youth was a music listening paradise. Even though I couldn’t afford to pay $17 for the albums I wanted, I had a workaround.
Nothing makes you feel at home in a new city like establishing business relationships.
About a month ago a friend who works at the Mercedes plant in Tuscaloosa Alabama got enough wood to build a small mansion. The timbers are huge 5″x6″ and up to 16 feet in length! They were used to ship assembly line robots from Germany to the Mercedes plant.
Not long after moving to Atlanta I met Damon Russel and Brendon Hubbard outside a record store. They produce short movies and seem to be quite good at it.
Ever wondered what is in the Minister’s Briefcase? I’ve been a huge fan NPR’s S-Town Podcast. It’s the most downloaded podcast ever and it takes place in Bibb county AL, not far from where I was living in Tuscaloosa. I will let This American Life summarize the story…
